Just after his 18th birthday, this rising athlete and college-bound student faced an unimaginable challenge: homelessness. With only one college class left to graduate from high school and no family support, he was suddenly on his own. He worked two jobs while couch surfing between two households, determined not to let his circumstances define him.
Thankfully, the McKinney-Vento Liaison at his high school made a referral to SHIP, and we were able to quickly step in to surround him with support,

encouragement, and basic needs, ultimately stabilizing his living situation. This allowed him to stay in school, maintain his multiple jobs, attend prom, and proudly
cross the stage at graduation.
After high school, he enrolled at Frederick Community College to stay on track for his dream of attending Morgan State in the fall of 2026, one he had put on hold due to his sudden circumstances. With the help of SHIP’s host home and rapid rehousing programs, he was able to achieve a major milestone by signing the lease to his very own apartment.

But wait, there is even more good news. He also completed the SHIP Driver’s education program and applied to receive a car from Second Chances Garage. After a three-month wait, he has been selected to receive a car from Second Chances Garage, providing him with reliable transportation to school and work. This young man’s resilience and determination are an inspiration, and we are proud to walk alongside him as he continues toward his goals.
